The PTC Program was developed in 2022 as a community service to provide a structured educational program for those interested in learning the science of phlebotomy techniques. Upon fulfillment of all PTC program requirements, graduates receive a certificate of completion. The curriculum is based on the content specifications of the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) examination administered by the National Health career Association (NHA), and graduates are encouraged to sit for this certification examination. Graduates who sit for, and pass, the CPT examination obtain the Certified Phlebotomy Technician credentials that follow their name as (CPT).
In accordance with and in support of the mission of the Nashville General Hospital, the Phlebotomy Technician Certification Program is committed to educating highly skilled phlebotomy technicians who will provide quality care for their patients. It is the program’s mission to promote phlebotomy skills, high quality patient care, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, professionalism, and continuing education. This is accomplished through a 12-week didactic and clinical curriculum.
The objective of this short-term training course is to provide students with the theory, laboratory, and clinical experience in the practice of phlebotomy. The program prepares students to successfully pass the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification exam.
Upon completion of the PTC program, the graduate will be able to:
